Campaign Retrospect
Overall Campaign Rating: 6.7

Despite stealing the top-slot on Friday night, this weekend “Moneyball” fell in extra-innings to animation royalty, “The Lion King.” Its success shouldn’t be overshadowed though. Speaking of second-place, try n’ swing at this: “Moneyball” also scored the second highest grossing opening weekend for any baseball movie ever. Furthermore, with Pitt at bat, it should fair especially well internationally for its genre.

The studio smartly put their Babe Ruth front & center in every piece of marketing. What’s more, they also managed to make it good. The trailers transcended the normal sports movie cliches by laying foundation for rich characters and strong storytelling. The most ubiquitous poster featured Pitt, but the other boldly eschewed the star for strong symbolism. It’s weakest link, the website, received a 4.1 from TFI, bringing down the overall to a strong 6.7.
