Retro Sheet of the Week
Thanks to a TFI reader for sending in this spectacular one-sheet for 1991′s “Closet Land.” We loved it so much we’ve decided to feature it as our “Retro Sheet of the Week.” We agree — it’s flawless!
“Closet Land” was a small and unlikely movie — the whole thing takes place in one room. But that didn’t stop it from putting together a top-notch poster that became one of the best of its decade.
Deep blues descend into warmer, sunset hues at the bottom, making for an alluring color scheme. In the hallucinatory graphic, a barbed-wire fence breaks into a flock of free-flying birds. It’s a moving concept in its own right that also synchs with the film’s central themes, as well as with the poster’s poetic caption. Altogether, this is an exceptional case in which a film’s poster is even better and more enduring than the film itself.

Simply amazing poster design.
